The United States Intelligence Community is a group of 18 federal agencies and organizations whose mission is to collect, analyze and deliver foreign intelligence and counterintelligence information to America's leaders so they can make sound decisions to protect our country. The following federal agencies and military branches compromise the Intelligence Community (IC) of the United States. While each one serves in separate and independent roles, a fusion of their combined results form authoritative assessments that are delivered to the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) around the clock. Further, data from the combined efforts of the IC community are also used by the DNI and the National Intelligence Council (NIC) to form the National Intelligence Estimates (NIEs) that are delivered daily to the President of the United States and select groups in the United States Congress. NIEs are classified documents.
